Fort Worth has garnered accolades for its efforts in historical preservation, specifically Mule Alley and the Stockyards Horse and Mule Barns. The Texas Chapter of the American Planning Association spotlighted these projects for their commitment to maintaining the city's cultural legacy, as detailed by the City of Fort Worth.
The "Public Space – Great Places in Texas" award for 2023 went to Mule Alley for its successful blend of heritage and community space. The award recognizes the combined efforts of the City and Stockyards Heritage Development to renovate historically significant buildings while creating a pedestrian-friendly environment. Completed in 2021, the project focused on structures central to the story of the Stockyards.
The Stockyards Horse and Mule Barn was recognized with the Planning Landmark Award, a testament to Fort Worth's dedication to its past. Bennett Partners and Stockyards Heritage Development headed the restoration, meticulously repairing a century-old barn complex battered by natural and human elements.
