Residents in Joshua Tree got an explosive surprise this holiday season when military ordnances were unearthed at a construction site, authorities reported. On a usually quiet Tuesday, the San Bernardino County Sheriff's deputies dashed to a home on Crestview Drive after a call came through about suspicious items that screamed of old military might.
Arriving at the scene, deputies quickly affirmed that these were indeed military ordnances, remnants perhaps of war. The Sheriff's Bomb/Arson Division, along with the Marine Corps Air Ground Combat Center (MCAGCC) Explosive Ordnance Disposal team, took charge, ensuring that no history-turned-threat lingered behind.
The teams swung into action, securing the area and removing the military relics with care. After a thorough search, no additional equipment or ordnances were discovered, as confirmed by the official communique.
Keeping with their responsibility, the Sheriff's Department has called upon the community to step forward with any information that could shed light on how these ordnances found their way into this residential area. "Anyone with information regarding this investigation is urged to contact detectives at the Morongo Basin Station," according to the press release published on Nixle on December 27th.
