A Georgia resident won $2 million in Monday's Powerball drawing. While the jackpot eluded participants nationwide, one Georgian struck it fortunate with a second-tier prize, thanks to opting for the Power Play feature, WSB Radio reported.
The winning numbers, which fell short of turning anyone into an instant billionaire but did leave some with hefty prizes, were 5, 12, 20, 24, 29 and the Powerball 4, and since no grand prize winners emerged the pot has swelled to a colossal $685 million with a cash option of about $345 million, the Powerball's chance at a festive miracle now rolls over to Wednesday's drawing, as stated by FOX 5 Atlanta.
Two other lucky players in Georgia matched four of the five numbers plus the Powerball, netting them $50,000 each.
It's been over two months since the Powerball has crowned a jackpot winner - the last occurred in California where a ticket holder bagged an eye-watering $1.765 billion the draw for that sum took place in October, making it the second-largest in the lottery's history, reflecting on the growing anticipation and ticket sales that propel the jackpot to such dizzying heights, as noted by FOX 5 Atlanta.
In Georgia, winners who are fortunate enough to rake in over $5,000 can expect a deduction of 5.75% state income tax, on top of an immediate 24% federal tax withholding.
