Big power moves are afoot in the Twin Cities suburbs as Great River Energy gears up to modernize the electrical grid. The wholesale electricity supplier, which serves Dakota Electric Association among others, is prepping to overhaul key transmission lines crisscrossing Burnsville, Eagan, and Apple Valley, according to the City of Burnsville.
Residents can expect to see old structures supplanted by the new, as the company plans to replace existing towers and lines without altering their familiar paths. The affected areas in Burnsville will mostly follow the tracts along Cliff Road East, Highway 13, and County Road 11 just south of Highway 13. The aim is to start construction by the fall of 2026, the City of Burnsville.
While the outline of the project is now public, finer details concerning the scope of construction and its impact on the daily lives of residents are yet to be disclosed. With the anticipation brewing for the planned start of the project three years hence, Great River Energy is expected to maintain open channels for community feedback and concerns. Further information and updates about the transmission line construction can be found on the City of Burnsville's website.
