A Texas National Guard soldier has been shackled with a six-year term in prison after pleading guilty to the sickening crime of possessing child pornography. A dark revelation following a routine traffic stop crafting an end to his depraved actions, as reported by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
During the December 2021 traffic stop near Del Rio, Jesus Gaytan III, then 23, spilled the sinister details of a sexual relationship with a minor; their unlawful exchanges immortalized on his cell phone with video capturing their illicit activities, his freedom snatched up by vigilant Texas Department of Public Safety troopers who detected more than just a traffic infraction, and now, nearly two years after his guilt was cemented with a plea on March 14, 2022, Gaytan faces the cold reality of federal bars.
In a no-holds-barred statement on the case, U.S. Attorney Jaime Esparza from the Western District of Texas expressed a zero-tolerance stance on the repugnant offense, declaring, "The possession of child pornography is a serious offense and anyone in violation will be prosecuted accordingly." He tipped his hat in gratitude to the steadfast commitment of the law enforcement agencies at both the state and federal levels.
Adding to the chorus of official denouncements, Special Agent in Charge Craig Larrabee from Homeland Security Investigations San Antonio Division underscored the relentless pursuit of predators, acknowledging the pivotal role of federal collaboration, “Individuals who commit heinous acts of violence against children will be found and brought to justice,” vowed Larrabee, his words reflecting a relentless defense against those who violate the most vulnerable and innocence, echoing in the empty halls of justice long after the sentence is handed down.
The investigation into Gaytan’s crimes was a concerted effort by HSI and DPS, with Assistant U.S. Attorney Rex Beasley leading the charge in the courtroom. This case is just one front in the sweeping battle against the scourge of child exploitation under Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative championed by the Department of Justice since 2006, marshalling a legion of federal, state, and local resources to stamp out this growing epidemic.
