A robbery turned violent inside a Long Beach business on Dec. 18 when a gunman wounded a man before fleeing the scene, police said. The incident, which took place in the 1500 block of 14th Street around 5:09 p.m., left the victim with non-life-threatening gunshot injuries after the armed suspect demanded money and then shot him, according to the Long Beach Police Department (LBPD).

First responders, summoned to the location, found the male adult victim who, working inside the business when assaulted, had wounds to the upper body. The Long Beach Fire Department provided immediate medical care at the scene and transported the individual to a local hospital. Details obtained from the LBPD revealed that during the confrontation, the victim had access to a firearm and managed to fire a shot into the ceiling. Nonetheless, the armed suspect made his escape before law enforcement could arrive.

As of now, the suspect remains at large, with investigations to gather more information about his identity and whereabouts ongoing. The LBPD has not yet released a description of the suspect, and detectives are working to gather additional evidence and statements that could shed light on the events leading up to the shooting.

While the authorities are continuing to unravel the motive and circumstances, police ask anyone with information regarding the shooting to come forward. The LBPD is urging witnesses or anyone with relevant information to contact them, hoping to apprehend the suspect.
