A disturbing incident unfolded in the usually quiet area of Unincorporated Half Moon Bay when 29-year-old Luis Gongorachavez was apprehended by San Mateo County Sheriff's Deputies for a series of troubling crimes against his former intimate partner. The Sheriff's Office charged Gongorachavez with several felonies, including domestic violence, robbery, false imprisonment, and vandalism, accusing him of harming the victim and causing chaos to her belongings and peace of mind.
Per the San Mateo County Sheriff's Office press release, the incident began on November 30 when deputies arrived at Iris Lane around 7 p.m. to pursue Gongorachavez. He allegedly destroyed his partner's cell phone in a fit of rage and fled on foot. Deputies quickly cornered him and gathered accounts that painted a stark picture of the previous evening: the victim, attempting to end the relationship, faced a violent strike to the head that lingered in pain for a full day.
On the day of the arrest, Gongorachavez allegedly forced the victim to drive him to an undisclosed location. During the ride, his anger flared again, leading to the destruction of her car stereo. Upon returning home, he is accused of a renewed assault—seizing her cell phone, throwing her onto the bed, and subjecting her to a verbal and physical tirade. In a destructive finale, he smashed the phone on the concrete, rendering it beyond repair, before fleeing until deputies apprehended him. In the aftermath, deputies swiftly secured an Emergency Protection Order to shield the victim from further harm.
Haunted by the memory of previous physical abuse, the victim's whispered account escalated into a public revelation that culminated in Gongorachavez's arrest. While the details of the ordeal are now known, deputies encourage anyone with additional information to come forward and contribute to the scales of justice.
