Yesterday, the Hays County Mental Health Court marked a significant milestone—its first-ever graduation ceremony—honoring individuals who've successfully navigated the justice system's thorny path lined with personal challenges related to mental health, substance abuse, or intellectual disabilities. Beaming pride filled the County Court of Law, Courtroom Three, during the hour-long event from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., shared with the grads' families and friends who packed the room, according to hayscountytx.
In a program that's been a steady grind since its inception, where participants report to the judge bi-monthly and consult with various social service professionals between August and December of 2022, this graduation signifies an immense achievement, Kaimi Mattila. "This is a whole year’s worth of them engaging in these services, coming to court two times a month and updating the judge on their process," all while juggling regular meetings with staff for different assessments and guidance to reach their individual goals, as per hayscountytx.
