In an unexpected turn of events during a routine traffic stop in Hayward, police officers discovered two stolen handguns, leading to the arrest of both the driver and the passenger of the vehicle. The stop, which was initially made to address an equipment violation, quickly escalated once officers were informed that the passenger was under formal probation with a search clause in place.
As the police conducted their search, they found one handgun in the driver's purse and another within arm's reach of the passenger. Both individuals were previously convicted felons, which only served to compound the severity of the charges they are now facing. According to the Hayward Police Department's Facebook page, "A record check revealed both guns to be stolen."
Now behind bars, the driver and passenger must both confront the fresh slate of gun-related charges that have been brought against them. The Hayward Police emphasized the heightened nature of these offenses, given that both parties have prior felony convictions. "The driver and passenger were both taken into custody for various gun related charges," the police shared in their online statement.
