An inmate was found dead in his cell at the Robert Presley Detention Center on Wednesday morning, authorities said. Luke Hanchette, 44, from Hemet, was discovered unresponsive by deputies during a routine check at 6:51 a.m. Jail staff and medical personnel attempted to revive him, but their efforts were in vain as he was pronounced deceased at the scene.
The Riverside County Sheriff’s Office has launched an investigation into the incident, though initial reports indicate no signs of foul play. A statement released by the Sheriff’s Office mentioned that Corrections Central Investigations is handling the ongoing investigation. The cause of Hanchette's death has yet to be determined.
