A driver in Hercules, California, was busted for drunken driving after police caught him behind the wheel of his 2011 Ford Focus, officials said. The suspect's tipsy journey ended when a Hercules Police Department officer pulled him over on December 9, just past 9 p.m., for committing vehicle code violations near Parker Ave. and 4th St., according to a Facebook post by the Hercules PD.
The officer noticed that the man was displaying clear signs of alcohol intoxication while seated firmly in the driver's seat. Within easy view, a bottle of Hennessy cognac, 750ml in size, was spotted lounging behind the passenger seat. Field sobriety tests were next on the agenda for the inebriated man, and the results were far from sobering.
His poor performance during the Standardized Field Sobriety Tests (SFST’s) and a Preliminary Alcohol Screening (PAS) test was enough proof for the officer. The driver was swiftly arrested for DUI, with booze-braced bravado having met its match in law enforcement's resolve to keep the streets safe.
Details about the driver's identity or the specific vehicle code violations that led to the traffic stop were not divulged by Hercules Police. Parked within the prose of the police department's post, it was stated that the bottle of Hennessy in the Ford sealed the driver's fate, "based on the driver’s performance on the SFST’s and his PAS results" he was clapped in cuffs for the drive that was anything but straight.
