
A routine traffic stop in Hercules, California, took a serious turn when police discovered a loaded firearm in a driver's vehicle. According to the Hercules Police Department, the stop occurred at approximately 1:53 a.m. on December 11, when an officer pulled over a black Chevrolet Malibu on Willow Ave at Hawthorne Dr. It was during this encounter that the officer reportedly spotted the barrel of a gun sticking out from under a jacket on the front passenger seat, a detail confirmed by the Hercules Police Department's Facebook page.
Upon further investigation, police identified the weapon as a silver and black Springfield XD-M 40 pistol. The driver, while being detained, was found to be in possession of the aforementioned firearm, which was not only loaded but also unregistered. The press release from the police department has not divulged the identity of the driver, pending the outcome of the case.
In line with California's stringent gun laws, the driver was arrested for firearm violations and subsequently booked into jail. The Hercules Police Department emphasized the seriousness of carrying an unregistered weapon.
