A teenage driver found herself at risk after a severe vehicle crash on George Washington Boulevard in Hingham on Wednesday night. According to a Boston25News report, officers who responded to the scene before 8:30 p.m witnessed a stark scene, a 2010 Hyundai Sonata overturned with the 17-year-old driver ejected and lying on the road.

Speeding northbound, the girl's vehicle met disaster straying over the center line, across oncoming lanes, before it collided with a sidewalk, a large rock and a cluster of trees, as detailed by the Hingham Police. Ejected from her seat, the driver suffered non-life-threatening injuries, as she was flung into the roadway after not wearing her seatbelt, the report obtained by Newport Dispatch reveals. She was later taken to South Shore Hospital for treatment.

Lt. Steven Dearth, the Public Information Officer for the Hingham Police Department, provided a statement elucidating that the vehicle was discovered on its roof in the southbound lanes following the accident. Officers cited the driver for multiple infractions, including negligent operation, marked lanes violation, speeding, and a seat belt violation. Their investigation into the crash remains ongoing.

"The driver’s seat belt had been in the latched position behind the driver’s seat. This is sometimes done to avoid the seat belt warning system when the seat belt is not used," Hingham police explained to Boston 25 News, shedding light on how the young driver bypassed safety mechanisms. While recovering, the driver's name has been withheld given her age and the sensitive nature of the incident.
