The Groton Police Department is reaching out to the public for help in locating a driver involved in a hit-and-run incident that seriously injured a K-9 unit. On the evening of December 20, a witness reported to authorities that a vehicle had hit a black lab, known as K-9 Bane, on Pleasant Street near the local police station; despite the collision, the driver responsible did not stop, instead continuing towards Ayer.

According to a statement obtained by the Groton Police Department, multiple citizens who were present at the scene promptly rendered aid to Bane, while the motorist who struck him failed to cease their travel, leaving the injured K-9 behind. The police have expressed their gratitude towards the four individuals who intervened to assist the canine, who has since been diagnosed with a broken femur, dislocated hip, broken ribs, and punctured lungs and is currently in serious but stable condition at Tufts Animal Hospital.

Authorities are actively soliciting assistance from anyone with surveillance cameras or who were in the vicinity of Pleasant St at the time of the incident, to come forward with any potential information. Detective Andrew Davis of the Groton Police Department can be contacted at 978-448-5555 or via email at [email protected] for anyone who might have insights or footage pertaining to the accident.
