A tragic Christmas night in Houston ended with a husband and his wife dead in what police are calling an apparent murder-suicide. Law enforcement responded to a report of a shooting that occurred just after 10:15 p.m. yesterday in the 4820 block of Grasilla Drive. Both victims were found with gunshot wounds, and police said a weapon was found at the scene.
Upon arrival at the scene near Allum and south of Highway 90, the Houston Police Department and the Houston Fire Department were able to quickly ascertain the grim situation. "The current information we have, it appears to be a murder-suicide at this time," HPD Lt. JP Horelica said, in a statement obtained by KHOU. The man and woman, believed to be married, were both pronounced dead at the scene.
The couple's three young children, ranging in age from four to fourteen, were present in the home when the incident occurred. One of the children recounted to investigators what happened, as first responders worked to piece together the night's events. The intersections of domestic tranquility violently ruptured are as much a story of what was seen as what will never be understood by those children who were there.
In the aftermath of the shooting, the children were placed with family members who swiftly came to the site, pending a longer-term solution for their well-being. As the community grapples with the shock and the family begins to mourn, the reality of domestic violence looms, yet again showing to be a specter that haunts all too many homes.
