Two men were nabbed in Houston for disguising themselves as dentists without valid licenses, one of whom is also accused of a disturbing sexual assault during an appointment. The pair, identified as Jose Uzeta and Alberto Flores, were operating out of an unassuming suite in the 6200 block of Westpark Drive, as reported by FOX26 Houston,
While Flores, who was released on a $15,000 bond, maintained a low profile, Uzeta's illicit career, which spanned more than two decades, unraveled after a female patient alleged that he groped her inappropriately after adjusting her braces, even trying to kiss her and attempting further indecency—a story first broken by ABC13. This shocking claim propelled a police investigation that subsequently exposed their unlicensed practice.
Neighbors, including Fernando, who works nearby, disclosed to FOX26 Houston how the duo's makeshift clinic saw a steady influx of patients and underwent inexplicable modifications, such as a window being abruptly covered.
The adjacent tenant, Dr. Dustin Mai, also told ABC13, he heard noises akin to construction, not realizing they masked the sound of unlicensed dental work, adding an element of eerie deceit to the proceedings.
Investigators discovered that Uzeta, a Mexican national, and Flores met at a dental school in Mexico before embarking on their unlawful practice in the U.S., with Uzeta admitting to unlawfully bending dental norms in Harris County for over two decades during his first court appearance. As reported by investigators and cited by ABC13, the low cost of services and reliance on referrals may have appealed to a vulnerable clientele fearful of legal repercussions should they voice their encounters.
The Harris County District Attorney’s Office is pushing for any other victims to come forward and aid in the prosecution of these men. Prosecutor Michael Haddad emphasized this in reports by FOX26 Houston.
Authorities urged the public to verify dental credentials via the Texas Medical Board site to ensure their chosen healthcare professionals are indeed certified to deliver care.
