A man is behind bars after the fatal shooting of a woman and injuring three children—one critically—at a Houston residence on Enyart Street early Friday morning.

Authorities have arrested and charged Keith Marion Lee, 35, with one count of murder and three counts of injury to a child. Lee was caught by Houston Police after two of the children broke free to seek help. The police responded to an assault call to find the children bearing marks of abuse, according to a news release.

The victim, a 33-year-old woman whose identity is being verified by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences, suffered multiple gunshot wounds. Houston Fire Department paramedics declared the woman deceased at the scene at approximately 1:20 a.m. on December 15.

Lee, who was found by officers on a rooftop, was ordered down and swiftly taken into custody. The officers, then having to swiftly enter the residence on Enyart Street, located a two-year-old boy with serious injuries alongside the deceased woman. Sergeant M. Wilson and Detective M. Castillo of the HPD Homicide Division are quoted in the release as saying the suspect was either married or the woman’s common-law husband and father to the three children.

The children, two of whom showed signs of physical abuse, were transported to a local hospital and are now in stable condition. The injuries to the two younger children included fractures to their faces and heads. Lee, after being charged, was also conveyed to the hospital to be treated for a medical condition. He will be transferred to Harris County Jail upon release.
