In Houston, a murder shatters in Third Ward—this time claiming the life of Jarrick Hoskins, a father of two. The shooting occurred outside Leighton’s House of Lamb and Ramen in an area that has seen its fair share of violence. The family of Hoskins is now desperately calling for justice, with Houston police on the hunt for the gunman. In a statement obtained by KPRC 2, Hoskins' mother, Tameka Moore, described her son as the heart of their family and emphasized his diverse facets as an athlete, a former scholar at TSU, and a loving father.

Caught fatally in the gunfire early Monday morning, Hoskins was described as not just a victim, but also a man who once had to navigate the judicial system. Several years back, he was part of a group that conducted six takeover-style bank robberies, which led to a federal prison sentence. Despite these earlier transgressions, his uncle told ABC13 that he was turning his life around before being gunned down."His past doesn't have to do with anything. He is a human being," Tameka said.

Leighton's House of Lamb and Ramen is stepping up security. A spokesperson for the restaurant told KPRC 2, “We will be hiring police authorities that will be here onsite just to make sure everybody’s safe, and I’m not just doing it for customers, I’m doing it for my staff too,”

Tameka Moore's anguish was evident as she implored the public to step forward with any information, “Say something. It’s just that simple. But people these days don’t do that until they’re wearing these shoes that we’re wearing. And these shoes are heavy. I feel like my feet are in cement. That was my baby,” Moore told KPRC 2.

The suspect remains at large, described by police as having a medium build and adorned in a white striped shirt and blue jeans the night of the shooting. Funeral arrangements for Hoskins are being kept private as reported by KPRC 2.
