Authorities in Houston are seeking public assistance after releasing surveillance footage of a white sedan involved in a deadly hit-and-run that took the life of a cyclist last month. The Houston Police Department disclosed the video connected to the incident that happened on the night of November 19, at around 9:10 p.m., at 1600 Houston Avenue.
Riding his bicycle southbound, James Midkiff, 36, was approaching a railway intersection when he was struck from behind by the sedan. After the collision, the vehicle did not stop, and no aid was rendered. Instead, it continued, fleeing southbound on Houston Avenue toward the North Freeway (North Interstate Highway 45).
Midkiff was rushed to Memorial Hermann-Texas Medical Center in critical condition, where, three days later, on November 22, his injuries proved fatal. The victim was pronounced deceased by attending doctors, leaving law enforcement to piece together the events that led to this tragic outcome.
The driver, as of now, remains unidentified, leaving no description for the authorities to disseminate. By having failed, the victim, witnesses, or anyone with knowledge of the suspect or sedan is being urged to come forward. Information can be directed to the HPD Hit and Run Unit at 713-247-4072 or given anonymously through Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
