Charges were looming over Mitchell as homicide investigators had begun piecing together the fatal encounter. Members of Davis' family had told authorities they believed Mitchell shot Davis before taking off in his car, as per a news release from Harris County obtained by the Houston Chronicle. A frantic search ensued until, under the bridge at 6510 N Sam Houston Pkwy E near Eastex/59, Houston Police discovered Mitchell's vehicle on Friday evening. Inside the car, they found Mitchell deceased with what appeared to be a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
The tragic sequence of events unraveled rapidly after Thursday's fatal shooting when investigators responded to the call at Davis' apartment complex. By the following day, the whereabouts of Mitchell and the unsettling finality of both his and Davis' fates took a sharp turn, culminating on the side of a busy Houston tollway.
