A blaze that engulfed an apartment in Southeast Houston Wednesday night has left a woman dead and three units damaged, authorities say. According to FOX 26 Houston, firefighters rushed to the 7400 block of Fairway Drive near the South Loop and the Gulf Freeway shortly after 10 p.m. upon receiving reports of potential entrapment. While two adults and two children managed to escape the flames, the unidentified victim, a woman in her 30s, was tragically found deceased in an upstairs unit.
Amid the smoke and chaos, a video shared by an unnamed neighbor captured the urgency of the situation as a voice was heard desperately calling for someone to break a window to escape. The Houston Fire Department confirmed to KHOU that the fire began in an upstairs apartment before spreading to three others. The extent of the damage wrought by the conflagration was not immediately clear.
The Harris County Fire Marshal's Office is at the helm of an ongoing investigation to determine what sparked the deadly incident.
