In a public service announcement, the Huntington Beach Police Department has put out a stark reminder for holiday party-goers: Stay off the wheel if you've been indulging in spirits or narcotics. According to a recent post by the HBPD, a tally of six individuals have been handcuffed and booked on DUI charges after flunking field sobriety tests, just this week.
A particularly egregious case involved a motorist whose erratic driving prompted a concerned citizen to alert the authorities. When the HBPD arrived on the scene, a traffic stop ensued that revealed more than just impaired driving. “The driver displayed clear signs of narcotic use and was arrested for DUI,” the department stated. “Additionally, narcotics were found inside the vehicle.”
"Even minimal amounts of alcohol, medication, or other substances can drastically compromise your driving capabilities," the HBPD posted. Their plea is clear: Don’t become a statistic or a perpetrator of tragedy.
