Commuters faced significant delays on eastbound I-580 near Dublin this Wednesday morning following a collision between a transit bus and a semi-truck. The California Highway Patrol issued a Sig-Alert at 6:32 a.m., as reported by Patch. The accident, which occurred around 5:53 a.m., resulted in a truck spilling dirt and debris across the roadway, leading to the closure of the right lanes west of Foothill Road.
The CHP Dublin Area advised motorists to expect ongoing delays and to seek alternate routes via their X account. Despite the early morning disruption, no injuries were reported in the incident. Cleanup crews worked diligently to clear the obstructions, but heavy traffic persisted well into the afternoon, with delays still significant as of 12:46 p.m.
The collision led to both the bus and the truck sustaining major damage, according to the CHP log. Emergency services arrived quickly at the scene, and though the lane blockage prompted a lengthy cleanup operation, by midday, no completion time was guaranteed.
In an update, the CHP Dublin Area thanked the public for their patience and cautioned drivers to be safe on the wet roads. They provided an estimated time frame, suggesting that the road would reopen approximately one hour after their latest update. As the crews continued to work hard to restore normal traffic flow, the CHP reiterated the need for caution during the road's clean-up phase.
