A young man's life was abruptly ended last night in a fatal incident involving an impaired driver at North Shepherd Drive in Houston. In a report obtained by the Houston Police Department, at approximately 9:35 p.m. on Thursday, a black Volkswagen Passat collided with a 23-year-old pedestrian, tragically resulting in his demise at the scene.
According to details released by the HPD Vehicular Crimes Division, Sergeant D. Griffiths, and Officer C. Brothers, the victim was crossing the street at the 6100 block of North Shepherd Drive when he was struck. Notably, the tragedy occurred outside the bounds of a designated crosswalk, with the vehicle traveling northbound. The identity of the young man is still pending verification by the Harris County Institute of Forensic Sciences.
Houston police confirmed that the driver of the Passat, 39-year-old Terran Gerrod Byrd, was questioned at the scene. It was determined that Byrd was impaired at the time of the crash. Consequent to the investigation, he now faces charges related to driving while intoxicated.
Byrd was charged in Harris County Criminal Court #1 and is currently being held in Harris County Jail.
