An Irvine apartment community was shattered by the sound of sirens last night as local authorities engaged in a high-speed chase that terminated with a crash, a run, and a dramatic capture in Santa Ana. The Irvine Police Department reported a burglary at the intersection of Alton and Murphy, swiftly identifying the suspect's vehicle as it departed the scene, initiating a chase that would end with a foot pursuit and arrest of the suspect, Luiz Ortiz, 28, of Santa Ana.
After the suspect refused to pull over, the pursuit continued into Santa Ana, where Ortiz's vehicle crashed and he attempted to flee on foot. Assistance from Anaheim PD's helicopter "Angel" was crucial in tracking down the suspect, who was ultimately apprehended after a brief chase. Inside the van, which was later confirmed as stolen from Santa Ana, officers discovered stolen property belonging to the victim.
According to a Facebook post by the Irvine Police Department, Ortiz has now been booked on multiple charges at the Orange County Jail. The police departments of both Irvine and Santa Ana were commended for their collaboration in the swift resolution of this incident.
