The Irvine Police Department has launched a search for suspects linked to a spree of burglaries targeting company trucks, a situation leaving the local business community reeling from substantial losses. The burglaries occurred in the vicinity of Rockfield and Thomas and spanned over a three-day period, with reports estimating the total cost of the stolen goods and damages to exceed $200,000. In a strategic move to enlist public assistance, authorities have taken to social media with a #WANTEDWEDNESDAY campaign.
Details released by the Irvine Police point to the theft of a truck from another business on the morning of December 16, later used in the commission of the crimes. The suspects, still at large, are believed to be responsible for the rash of thefts from multiple trucks. In a statement posted on Facebook, the Irvine PD provided contact information for those who might possess relevant information, urging anyone who can identify these individuals to come forward.
Preventative advice accompanied the appeal for information. Irvine PD recommended that work trucks be stored indoors overnight when possible. For those required to park outside, the removal of valuables and choosing well-lit, camera-equipped parking areas were suggested as best practices. This guidance follows a pattern of proactive community policing intended to mitigate the chance of recurring incidents and to tighten security against such opportunistic crimes.
