A middle school in Lake Arrowhead was thrown into a frenzy when a student brought a suspicious device on campus, leading to a lockdown and law enforcement swarming the grounds. On Thursday, according to the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, a 13-year-old male student was taken into custody after the incident at Mary Putnam Henck Intermediate School, located at 730 Rhine Road.

The device, which caused enough concern to evacuate the school's administration building, ultimately contained no explosive materials, officials said. "Out of an abundance of caution, the school was placed on lockdown, and the administration building was evacuated," Sheriff's Bomb and Arson personnel responded, rendering the device safe, according to a statement released by the department. Normalcy returned to the school after the lockdown was lifted, and the boy was released to his family.

Twin Peaks deputies investigated the event under Penal Code 18710, which deals with the possession of a destructive device. However, it was determined that the student’s device was not a threat. Officials stressed that "at no time were any of the students or staff in any danger," as per the official report released late Thursday night.
