The Los Angeles Police Department called out a media report as fake news on Wednesday, asserting that no investigation has been initiated by the Internal Affairs Division into Mayor Karen Bass, contrary to what was reported. The LAPD emphatically denied these allegations, underscoring that its Internal Affairs Division does not investigate elected officials but is limited to probing potential misconduct by its employees.
To set the record straight, LAPD Chief Michel Moore was quick to distance himself and the department from the claims, he stated, "I did not initiate, request, or authorize an investigation as alleged in any fashion," a rebuttal that seeks to snuff the spreading fire of misinformation. This matter is now with the Office of the Inspector General which Moore has expressed his support for their investigation into what he described as "fictitious allegations."

The report in question generated buzz on social media, causing a commotion that prompted an official response from the department. Chief Moore's statement, which deems the allegations as baseless was released through a formal statement accessed through the LAPDPIO X account and amplified by the LAPD's misinformation rebuttal machinery.
