A deadly spree ripping across two Texas cities has culminated with a single suspect in custody, facing a slew of grim charges. The alleged murderer, tentatively linked to the gruesome deaths of six individuals—two found in a San Antonio home and four others in Austin – was arrested after a volatile clash with law enforcement, according to Fox San Antonio reports. The man believed to be behind the bloody mayhem has a connection to a Northeast Bexar County residence, discovered after a tip indicated the suspect's Austin rampage, which began early Tuesday, had roots in the San Antonio area.
Details about the sequence of events emerged from various agencies, while the suspect's name was released by the Austin American-Statesman as Shane James, 34. James, according to KSAT, was charged with capital murder along with several other misdemeanors.
A grim discovery was detailed by Bexar County Sheriff Javier Salazar, who noted deputies found two bodies, believed to be a couple in their 50s, in a bedroom of the San Antonio home following concerns of a water leak. Neighbors, who labeled the victims as quiet and community-involved, did not report shootings, leaving the cause of the leak and deaths, at the moment, shrouded in mystery. "Nobody deserves to die the way we believe they died," said Salazar in relation to the two victims found, as reported by FOX San Antonio.
Meanwhile, in Austin, a series of brutal incidents unfolded over the course of the day. The suspect started his rampage by ambushing an Austin ISD officer, which led to a lockdown at Northeast Early College High School, as reported by KSAT. The violence continued with two people shot dead in a South Austin home, a bicyclist wounded in a separate shooting, and two more individuals found deceased at a home where the suspect fired upon responding officers.
A tense pursuit ensued before James crashed his vehicle and was apprehended. Found with a firearm, he now resides in Travis County Jail, with officials strongly suggesting his lone involvement in the day's bloodshed. "We strongly believe one suspect is responsible for all of the incidents," stated Austin Interim Chief of Police Robin Henderson, indicating that James is a singular agent of violence now restrained from further harm to the Austin community, as per KSAT.
