Los Altos, California, had a not-so-silent night as police responded to a driver who crashed into a local resident's fence on Christmas Day. According to a Facebook post by the City of Los Altos Police Department, the incident involved not just a case of driving under the influence, but the culprit was also in possession of a loaded and unregistered firearm found inside the vehicle.
The Santa Clara County Fire Department worked to extract the inebriated driver from their car in the early hours of the holiday. While providing aid, officers discovered the illegal weapon. The LAPD has voiced a staunch commitment to keeping the community secure, stating, "LAPD will work relentlessly to ensure that our community is safe." They reminded the public of the stark perils of DUI, emphasizing the amplified danger when combined with illegal firearms.
The City's law enforcement used the occasion to implore residents to make smarter choices, especially regarding the dangerous cocktail of drinking and driving. The consequences of such actions can be severe, potentially leading to tragic outcomes for the driver, passengers, and everyone else on the road.
While the Christmas festivities were expected to bring joy, the LAPD faced the sobering task of enforcing law and order amidst celebrations. They reiterated their message for safety through their statement: "please don’t drink and drive and certainly don’t do it with illegal firearms."
