
A fire broke out in a Valley Village apartment building early this morning, sending Los Angeles firefighters into battle against the blaze as the city slept. The fire ignited at approximately 06:35 AM at 12321 W Riverside Dr, a 4-story apartment structure with parking underneath. The firefighters quickly moved to offensive mode to control the flames that had engulfed the building's attic, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department alert.
One individual was evaluated for possible smoke inhalation though no further details on their condition were made available. The LAFD contained the fire to just one corner of the attic, aiming to quickly knock it down to prevent further spread. It took 48 firefighters a rigorous 23 minutes to extinguish the flames. In a statement obtained by the LAFD, "Salvage operations were conducted in the units below to protect against water damage" as they efficiently worked to stem additional losses.
As detailed by the follow-up alert from the LAFD, the knockdown was declared at 06:58 AM, and the situation was fully under control with the fire contained in the attic. "No further details" regarding the cause of the fire or the extent of the damages were provided immediately.
