Los Angeles is set to get nearly 200 more beds for its homeless population thanks to a fresh influx of state cash. Mayor Karen Bass announced the boon, revealing that the City of Angels and the Housing Authority of the City of Los Angeles have secured funding for four housing sites through Project Homekey. The state's generosity was heralded by Mayor Bass, who vowed to keep pushing until every home-challenged Angeleno has a roof over their head.
"We will continue to collaborate as we urgently confront the homelessness crisis, and bring more housing online to every neighborhood across the city," said Mayor Bass in a statement obtained by the Mayor's official website. She also promised ongoing outreach to maximize the impact of these new accommodations.
The 176 units funded by the Homekey Projects in Los Angeles will be a mix of interim and permanent solutions for those without a place to call home, or on the brink of losing it. In addition to the city's haul, the county secured three awards which, will add another 308 housing units to tackle homelessness outside the city limits.
The state has been diligently working to alleviate the homelessness crisis that holds a firm grip on Los Angeles, with both the city and county benefitting from the recent funding rounds. This initiative not only represents an investment in buildings, but an investment, in lives — an opportunity to rebuild and recover for those who have suffered on the hard streets of Los Angeles. "We will continue our outreach in communities to ensure that we can make this life-saving housing available to as many Angelenos as possible," the Mayor reassured the public.
