Chaos took over a Van Nuys street yesterday when an underground water pipeline burst, leading to significant damage and traffic disruptions. The Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD) responded to a call around 3:11 PM at the 6800 block of North Hazeltine Avenue, at the intersection with Vanowen Street, after the pipeline failure caused chaos in the area.
According to the LAFD's alert, there were no injuries or evacuations necessary, and the structures nearby seemed to have luckily escaped threat from the flooding. LADWP was immediately alerted and sent a crew to manage to quickly assess and deal with the situation. However, the exact time of their arrival was initially unclear, leaving residents and motorists to grapple with the unexpected inconvenience.
While crews worked, the local authorities urged motorists to avoid the area and seek alternative routes as congestion built up. Detours were put in place, but delays were inevitable, causing gridlock for those caught unaware by the sudden street lake that emerged from the shattered asphalt.
As of now, repairs are underway, and LADWP crews are striving to restore order and the flow of water to this massively disrupted part of the San Fernando Valley. Information about the long-term impact on residents and the surrounding infrastructure remains scant, but officials have promised to keep the public updated as they continue to work on resolving the issue.
