A heinous crime unfolded at Dolphin Mall earlier this month, where a 33-year-old man was accused of drugging and sexually assaulting an 11-year-old girl. David Rivero, the alleged perpetrator, is now behind bars facing charges of sexual battery on a minor by an adult.
According to reports by WSVN, the victim was at the mall on December 10 when Rivero supposedly gave her an edible infused with marijuana before forcibly taking her to a family bathroom. There, the victim was raped, as per the accusations. Rivero, who was a stranger to the girl, had initially met her on that fateful day at the mall situated at 11401 NW 12th St in Sweetwater.
Subsequently, the girl disclosed the distressing ordeal to her mother, who then rushed her to Nicklaus Children’s Hospital for a medical examination. There, she recounted the episode to a doctor. "The victim told her mother about the incident and the mother took her to Nicklaus Children’s Hospital to get physically examined. The victim then told the story to a doctor," as noted by WSVN.
Investigative efforts revealed tangible evidence of the incident, with mall surveillance footage catching Rivero and the young victim entering and then later exiting the family restroom. NBC Miami reports that Rivero has been detained and is being held without bond as the legal proceedings unfold. No attorney information has been made available for the suspect at this time.
