
A tragic Christmas Eve incident in St. Paul has claimed the lives of a man and his four-legged companion, authorities have confirmed. The St. Paul Police Department reported that 64-year-old Steven Wirtz and his 2-year-old German Shepherd were struck and killed by an SUV while out for an evening walk. The fatal collision occurred at the intersection of Maryland Avenue West and Park Street around 8:15 pm, as per FOX 9.
The authorities were on the scene where Wirtz and his dog were pronounced dead by the attending fire medics, the vehicle involved was driven by a motorist who has not been identified but remained at the scene and is said to be cooperating with the ongoing investigation, according to details shared by the St. Paul Police Department's Social media account.

The pedestrian who was killed the evening of Dec. 24 at Maryland Ave W. and Park Street has been identified as Steven Wirtz, 64, of Saint Paul. Also killed in the crash was Wirtz’s 2-year-old German Shepherd.
