An early morning crash in Antioch turned deadly when a vehicle slammed into a tree and caught fire, claiming the lives of a 28-year-old man and his dog. The Antioch Police Department reported the incident occurred around 2:45 a.m. yesterday at the intersection of Wilbur Avenue and Apollo Court. Despite efforts by responders to douse the flames, both the driver, from Oakley, and his pet were pronounced dead at the scene, per the Antioch Police Department.

Officials have yet to publicly identify the victim as they work to inform the next of kin duly. Preliminary investigations by Antioch Police suggest that speed and alcohol may tragically have played a role in the deadly incident. The authorities are now urging anyone with relevant details to come forward and assist with the ongoing inquiry.

Lieutenant Rick Martin of the Investigations Bureau stated, "It appears speed and alcohol were factors in this incident."
