A grisly scene unfolded on the Northeast Side of San Antonio Friday night when a man, now behind bars, caused a car accident leaving another individual in dire straits. Fox San Antonio reports that the crash occurred just before 8 p.m. on the 9500 block of Westmore Road, where a driver in a gray Chevy truck veered into oncoming traffic, colliding head-on with a Kia Forte.

The Kia, impacted with such force, spun out of control, leaving the driver, a 38-year-old man, in critical condition. The Chevrolet driver, instead of stopping to offer assistance, reportedly continued driving, prompting calls to 911 to report a suspicious vehicle dragging to cause sparks along the roadway. The driver of the Chevy was later apprehended by the San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) after fleeing the crash site.

As chronicled by Fox San Antonio, SAPD was able to locate the Chevy truck through multiple witness calls. After conducting an evaluation, the driver was placed under arrest, facing charges of Intoxication Assault and Failure to stop and render aid.

Further details provided by KSAT reveal that the Chevy, identified as a Chevrolet Silverado, was heading northbound on Wetmore Road when it inexplicably crossed into the opposing traffic lanes. The ensuing collision left the truck damaged, sliding on its frame and causing visible sparks which drew the attention of local residents. The suspect's identity has yet to be released by police.

Residents of San Antonio are all too familiar with the dangers of intoxicated driving, especially with the New Year celebrations upon us. This latest incident serves as a sobering reminder of the perilous outcomes that can emerge when individuals choose to irresponsibly get behind the wheel intoxicated. With the victim hospitalized and the driver now in custody, the community is left to grapple with the aftermath of what appears to be another preventable tragedy on its streets.
