Yesterday, a man was critically injured after a dispute that began on a VIA city bus escalated into a shooting on the Southwest Side of San Antonio, officials say. Sourced from KENS5, the argument sparked between a man in his 30s and another man presumed to be in his mid-20s while on a VIA bus traveling down Zarzamora Street.
The altercation continued after both men exited the bus near Zarzamora and Merida Streets around 3:30 p.m. It was then that the younger man is reported to have shot the older man twice near the bus stop. The victim was subsequently transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Investigators are currently working to quickly identify and locate the shooter, who was last seen wearing all black.
According to a statement obtained by FOX San Antonio, San Antonio Police Department (SAPD) officials said that the suspect and victim had exited the same southbound VIA bus before the shooting occurred. The SAPD is actively reviewing video footage from the bus to gather additional information regarding the incident.
The incident also resulted in the damage to a nearby SUV, but there were no other injuries reported by officials. VIA officials are also said to have been actively cooperating with law enforcement, having stopped the bus involved along with a second nearby bus to hopefully secure surveillance video that might aid in the investigation. Tips from witnesses suggest that the suspect may have possibly managed to jump onto another bus shortly after the shooting, according to the same reports from police.
The San Antonio Police Department continues their search for the armed suspect, issuing statements asking the public for any information that might lead to an arrest. The authorities are urging anyone who witnessed the event, or recognizes the man described as wearing all black to come forward to help ensure swift justice for the seemingly random act of violence that has left one man fighting for his life.
