Crime is on the rise in Manhattan Beach, as detailed in the latest weekly crime summary from the local police department. According to a recent report published on the City of Manhattan Beach's website, there has been a spree of vehicular crimes, including three window smashes, a car door lock punch, and instances of potential theft where no forced entry was evident. The Manhattan Beach Police Department (MBPD) has documented 16 arrests and taken 45 crime reports in just one week.

During the week of December 7th through December 13th, the police made several notable arrests, apprehending a grand theft suspect who attempted to flee from Bevmo and was brought down by a civic-minded citizen. They also initiated a pursuit when a driver, who later was arrested on a warrant for felon in possession of a firearm, failed to yield. An individual drinking in public with a loaded firearm in their vehicle and a pair suspected of planning residential burglaries were also among those caught by the ever-vigilant MBPD officers.

The MBPD is hitting back against the swell in property crimes with preventative strategies, urging the public to take measures such as installing adequate lighting, securing doors and windows, and utilizing alarm systems to prevent burglars. They advise residents to maintain visible and well-lit landscaping, foster strong community bonds, and be cautious with personal information on social media to prevent their homes from becoming targets.
