The manhunt is on for an escaped inmate from a Texas prison, authorities said. Robert Yancy Jr., 39, broke out of the Clemens Unit in Brazoria, and was last seen yesterday afternoon driving a 2021 white Nissan Versa. The license plate on the getaway car is DNR9145, and Yancy is believed to have been wearing a black beanie and a black sweater, seemingly blending into the wintry landscape, as per the Facebook post of Texas Department of Criminal Justice.
Yancy's escape triggered an immediate search operation. "All information obtained at this point leads us to believe Yancy is no longer in Brazoria County," the sheriff’s office posted on Facebook, according to a statement obtained by KSAT. With Yancy on the lam, law enforcement agencies have been alerted, and the public has been warned against approaching the fugitive, who was serving a life sentence without parole for a sexual abuse case involving a child.
Yancy was convicted for continuous sexual abuse of a child in Victoria County and had no chance of parole. FOX San Antonio reports that, with his criminal background, the authorities have emphasized the importance of public vigilance.
Anyone with information that would lead to recapturing the escaped convict is urged to contact the Office of Inspector General at 1-800-832-8477. As the pursuit for Yancy intensifies, who might have shed his black beanie and sweater to avoid detection, officials have doubled down on their resolve to bring the escapee back into custody and to ensure the safety of the community. An escape artist serving life, Yancy's case serves as a sobering reminder of the perpetual dance between law enforcement and those they are sworn to keep behind bars.
