Minneapolis's own Lil Crush, known for blending rap, country, and rock in his tunes, has just released a music video that's about a lot more than beats and rhymes. The multi-genre artist's new video for his song "Burrrbon" shines a light on Minnesota's businesses, both in bustling cities and serene countryside towns.
Lil Crush, who's also been dubbed Baby Goat due to his admiration for the animal and his 'inspired-by-Lil-Wayne mixtapes', spent seven days over three weeks producing this latest video at a mere cost of $500, KARE 11 reported. It features landmarks like the bustling Mall of America and the iconic Minnesota State Fair, but the true star of the video is Poplar Hill, Minnesota's oldest dairy goat farm, where much of "Burrrbon" was shot.
The choice of location comes at a crucial time for Poplar Hill, which, after the recent closure of Hastings Creamery found itself struggling to find a plant to process its fluid milk. Farm operator Sarah Johnson was candid about the challenges they've faced, revealing in a statement obtained by KARE 11, "We have a marketing budget of $0," implying that any exposure like a feature in a music video is a boon for the business. Johnson added that they rely on word-of-mouth and internet reviews to attract visitors to enjoy their farm tours and meet-and-greet sessions with the baby goats come March.
Musically, Lil Crush is breaking even more ground by embracing genre-crossover with his “pop country, country pop” style, in a bid to do something different from the burgeoning country-hip hop fusion trend. And speaking of trend-setting, the artist has a performance scheduled at First Avenue's 7th St Entry on December 26, with tickets to see Lil Crush and a lineup of guest artists going for $12 in advance and $15 at the door, according to KARE 11.
Lil Crush's set to unveil his sixth Baby Goat tape in January. Lil Crush continues to engage fans with his unique sound and commitment to helping businesses bounce back in a post-pandemic world, as can be seen in the video description of "BURRRBON" posted on YouTube. KARE 11 acknowledges that teaching the youth that "The goal is to teach the youth the competition is not with others, it's between you and yourself," shows Lil Crush is thinking beyond just melody and verses.
