Tragedy struck Minneapolis on Tuesday evening as a man was fatally shot on the 900 block of Newton Ave. N. Minneapolis Police Department officers swiftly responded to the shooting alert at about 6:35 pm. Upon arrival, they found the victim with life-threatening injuries, as reported in an official statement obtained by the Minneapolis Police Department. Despite aggressive life-saving attempts by the first responders, the man succumbed to his wounds.
The aftermath of the incident led MPD SWAT to thoroughly search an abandoned house nearby, suspecting it may have harbored the shooter. However, the search came up empty. Investigators are actively piecing together the events that led to the shooting, but as of yet, there have been no arrests made. The ongoing investigation is to unfold the motive and locate any suspects involved.
In a concerted effort to solve this crime, the Minneapolis Police Forensic Division sent forensic scientists to process the crime scene and collect evidence. Meanwhile, homicide detectives have taken up the mantel to spearhead the investigation, according to the Minneapolis Police statement.
The identity of the victim, along with the cause and nature of death, will be disclosed by the Hennepin County Medical Examiner in due time.
