Before his eventual discovery, the last known activity on Kustas' phone was recorded on November 28. A vehicle registered to him was spotted by a Flock Safety camera on December 1 on Brookhaven Drive. His mother had mentioned to the authorities that her son had a history of brief disappearances but expressed increased concern after he missed significant family gatherings. "Jordan's mom told police her son was known to disappear from time to time, but it usually only lasted for a few days," according to FOX 5 Atlanta.
Further details uncovered by police suggest that Kustas might have been dealing with personal issues, including a gambling problem and debt to a bookie in North Carolina. However, no direct correlation has been established between these problems and his absence. His roommate indicated that Kustas was also behind on rent, which he attributed to expenses related to a medical procedure.
