Early yesterday in Morgan Hill, a vehicle sped through the night, its alarm cutting through the silence and alerting authorities to something awry. The Morgan Hill Police Department reported that officers responding to a vehicle alarm and high-speed driving at around 2:20 a.m. attempted to stop the suspect. A pursuit ensued on Depot Street, but it was cut short due to the perilous driving exhibited by the individual behind the wheel of an unreported stolen vehicle, according to the Morgan Hill Police Department's Facebook post.
An investigation into the incident unveiled surveillance footage featuring at least one suspect emerging from the vehicle brandishing a handgun equipped with a high-capacity magazine. Amidst this chaos, the police uncovered that the suspect also committed a string of at least seven acts of vandalism and vehicle burglaries along Depot, E. Third, and E. Fourth Streets. The police advised community members to avoid intervening in crimes in progress and to contact 911 immediately.
Morgan Hill PD used its social media platform not only to report on the incident but also to urge residents to take proactive measures for their safety. “We would also like to remind everyone to remove all valuables from their vehicle and remain highly vigilant while parking in well-lit areas,” they warned in their public statement.
While the suspect remains at large, the Morgan Hill Police encourage anyone with information to assist in their investigation. Tips can be sent directly to Sergeant Scott Purvis at the provided contact, and for those wishing to remain anonymous, a link has been made available for confidential submissions.
