Homes across Central Texas have been rattling with mysterious booms, leaving communities from Round Rock to Chandler on edge. KXAN reported that residents in the Round Rock and Hutto areas were shaken by a loud boom last Tuesday around 11:30 a.m., with multiple social media postings echoing the sentiment. Despite efforts to trace the cause, both the City of Round Rock and local fire departments came up empty, with no related incidents to report.
Similarly, East Texans are looking for explanations as reports of houses shaking and "loud explosions" echoed through towns this past week according to a KETK article, while speculation has ranged from industrial accidents to military jets. While some locals, like Kilgore resident Betty Sue Beardan, initially scrambled with thoughts of industry explosions, others put forth theories of tannerite, commonly used in firearm target practice, causing the disturbances.
Amidst the confusion and the lack of answers from authorities, residents like Chandler's Sam Reed recounted startling experiences to KETK, describing the booms as comparable to "lightning striking next to your house." The community's concern grows with Reed highlighting the unrest, especially post-holidays when tannerite might be used in abundance for celebrations such as gender reveals.
There has been no official statement regarding the cause of these booms, though the resonance of speculation continues to proliferate on social media platforms, likely due to tannerite's availability in stores and online, and its popularity during festive times.
