A New Hampshire man is behind bars after being accused of sexually assaulting a child under 16, using the social media app Snapchat as a tool to perpetrate his alleged crimes. Eric Michael Castine, 27, of Keene, was taken into custody by state police Wednesday on charges that could mark only the beginning of an unfolding investigation.
Authorities detailed how Castine, leveraging the connectivity of Snapchat, allegedly lured and subsequently assaulted the minor. The New Hampshire Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force is looking into the possibility of additional victims who may have fallen prey to similar tactics. According to a statement obtained by Boston25 News, the investigation into Castine's interactions with children is ongoing, and there is an anticipation of more charges.
The arrest followed a warrant execution by members of the specialized task force. "State police say investigators believe Castine also "used Snapchat to communicate with and make in-person contact with other juveniles," informs NBC Boston. Charged with felonious sexual assault, Castine's alleged abuse did not stop at a singular incident. State police believe he used the digital platform to communicate and orchestrate in-person meetings with other juveniles.
Prior to his Thursday arraignment in Cheshire County Superior Court, Castine remained under preventative detention. The police are actively seeking information from the public, urging anyone with concerns their child has been victimized to reach out. State Police are urging anyone with concerns that their child may have been victimized or anyone with information regarding this investigation to contact Detective Edward Horton at 603-931-0660 or [email protected]., according to Boston25 News
