Concord and the residents of the surrounding New Hampshire area experienced a tumultuous night following the occurrence of a 2.7 magnitude earthquake on Friday evening. The United States Geological Survey (USGS) confirmed that the quake rumbled to life around 11:15 p.m. and struck just three miles beneath the surface, its epicenter lurking southeast of Steeplegate Mall, according to BOSTON25.
Residents from Concord to Pembroke, from Epsom to Durham, chimed in, some likening the sensation to a freight train thundering by their doorstep. "It rattled my whole house and scared us half to death," reported Concord's Chris Ring in an interview obtained by WMUR.
While some locals shared anecdotes about a perceived explosion, others were tugged from their sleep by the seismic shudder. "Thought our furnace blew up or a car hit the house," said Epsom resident Sherry Pattillo, who probably never expected her slumber to be so rudely disrupted.
Daniel Day of Durham, his words translating his jolted nerves, remarked, "It felt like a freight train ran for twenty feet outside my house," also noting obtained by WMUR.
No injuries or damages have been reported.
