A 24-year-old pizza delivery man was shot and killed in his car yesterday, as confirmed by the Oakley Police Department. The victim was found with multiple gunshot wounds in his vehicle outside his home on the 1400 block of Rutherford Lane, the incident occurring in a typically quiet neighborhood, notably near a local school.
The shooting took place at around 4:52 PM when the assailants, driving a vehicle, pulled up alongside the victim’s parked car, whereby a passenger fired at close range with the assailants fleeing the scene shortly after heading towards Vintage Parkway. Police Chief Paul Beard recounted the grim sequence of events, adding that the victim’s family, including his mother, were present during this tragic act as the man was on a break delivering pizzas, per the Oakley Police Department.
Chief Beard declared this case to be the top priority for Oakley PD, stating, "This type of violence does not belong in Oakley," in a statement that underscored the shock and sorrow this event has garnered. The Investigations Unit of the department, alongside the Crime Scene Investigator and the Contra Costa County Sheriff's Office Crime Lab, are thoroughly examining the evidence as they appeal to the public for any additional information or video footage that may shed light on the incident – particularly between 4:00 PM and 5:05 PM on the date in question. Calls are encouraged to be directed to Detective Dombrouski, who leads the case.
