In a heart-wrenching turn of events, eight puppies were discovered abandoned and confined within a duct-taped box alongside a busy Fort Worth highway. The Humane Society of North Texas has confirmed taking in the young dogs after a passerby intervened upon witnessing their callous disposal.
The puppies' plight began when a Good Samaritan observed an individual ejecting the box into the harsh shoulder of the road near FM 1187 & I-35W. Driven by concern, the man approached the discarded box and, making a discovery that could twist the gut, saw a puppy's nose jutting through a crack in its confines, according to FOX 4 News.
The box, described as "heavy-duty" and sealed with duct tape, contained the eight puppies in conditions no living creature should endure. The Samaritan ferried the animals to safety at the Humane Society’s facility on Lancaster Avenue where they now recover and await health assessments.
"It's shocking and makes us sick to our stomachs to think about what could have very easily happened. These puppies owe their lives to that Good Samaritan who listened to his gut and knew something was wrong," relayed the Humane Society of North Texas in a solemn reflection shared on their Facebook page. The act of abandonment, leaving the puppies trapped, has prompted the organization to seek financial support on behalf of the rescued, as per WFAA.
The outpour of community care is tangible. the Humane Society has successfully raised $1,751 via its Facebook page to date, contributing to the puppies' medical care and their journey towards finding forever homes.
