According to the Austin Police Department, the accident occurred at approximately 1:59 a.m. in the 5000 block of Burleson Road when the pedestrian was attempting to cross mid-block. The crash has been recorded as the year’s 82nd fatal collision in Austin, starkly contributing to a tally of 85 fatalities in 2023. This marks a decline from the previous year, where 101 fatal accidents had already claimed 105 lives by the same date.
The victim, whose identity remains undisclosed, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver involved in the incident did not escape unscathed; though physically uninjured, they have been arrested on charges of driving while intoxicated (DWI).
